For many people, Alaska is synonymous with gold. The Klondike Goldrush in the late 1800s took place further north (and in Canada), but that didn’t stop miners from panning for gold in Ketchikan. Local fine jewelry stores pay homage to this legacy by selling a sparkling array of gold, diamonds, jade and other precious gems.
